[Introduction video] Welcome to Working with Sound: Introduction to Audio Recording and Editing an asynchronous workshop that will help you gain or improve your sound related skills. The main focus will be on voice recording, be it for voiceover/narration or podcasting, and the editing of those recordings. This workshop has been designed to provide you with range of possibilities on how to produce the best quality sound you can given a variety of conditions, be them that you are recording in your home, office, or in a sound dedicated space.  [Create downloadable checklist.]


Technology used:
Audacity, a free open source recording and editing application available for Mac and PC
• Garageband and iMovie, which are freely available for Macs (Will only be touched on.)
• Any microphone of your choice, e.g., the mic built into your computer, your smart phone, or any external mic you might have.
• Pillows and blankets. (Nope, I'm not kidding.)

What you will learn:
•  The basics of how sound works and how to be more conscious of sound. 
•  What considerations to make when recording sound.
•  The difference between microphone types and how to use microphone more effectively.
•  Basic sound editing and sound filtering techniques. (This includes how to improve lower quality recordings.) 

You will be introduced to:
• Adding sound to a video project (using iMovie) and editing sound within the project.
• Garageband, a more advanced sound editing tool.
