Pumpkin Spice - a similacra

Simulacrums are a reproduction of the real. The Pumpkin Spice Latte is just a signifier for the real season of fall, yet consumers have this referential belief that they need a latte to fully experience fall.

They are copies, or representations, of concepts and ideas. They are typically found in hyperreal spaces where the real and virtual spheres blur. For instance, Google maps exist in the hyperreal because it depicts real places in real time, but is accessed on a virtual platform.

Their “…simulation threatens the difference between the ‘true’ and the ‘false,’ the ‘real’ and the ‘imaginary”” (Baudrillard).
