Critical Theory in a Digital Age, CCU, ENGL 483 2017

Conclusion

Freud reiterates that the uncanny is not something that is unfamiliar, but it is something that is known to us. The familiar comes to use in an unfamiliar way, which makes us view something as "uncanny". The uncanny draws out our secret memories that we desperately try to repress. In the end of the film, the characters have to face the memories that they repress so that they are not haunted by them anymore. Maybe that is what the uncanny forces us to face those memories that we repress so that we can figure out a way to move past them.
