Rachel Mandell

Rachel Mandell is currently a Metadata Librarian at USC’s Digital Library. Prior to joining the faculty at USC, Mandell worked as the Digital Archivist and project manager on the CSU Japanese American Digitization Project, where she brought disparate collections relating to the Japanese American experience in the 20th century into a shared digital portal. She also held the position of LA as Subject Resident Archivist, which placed her in four institutions around the Los Angeles area with the goal of making local collections more accessible.

After receiving her Master’s in Library and Information Science from UCLA in 2012, Rachel spent two years abroad, working as a project archivist at the Center for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe, Germany, and a Fulbright Scholar in Vienna, Austria, where she gained experience in audiovisual archiving at the Austrian Film Museum and the Phonogrammarchiv. Rachel’s research interests include scholarly communication and the digital humanities, research data management, and digital preservation.
