Before the Bryn Mawr segregated school was built students attended the Mission School. In 1904, a new version of Mission School was built for $15,000. Rather than demolish the entire original building to make room for the new one, the builders saved one building that had been built in 1885. The small building was used as a Sunday school. Later it was proposed that the site could become a school that would teach English to Spanish speaking students. In 1911, the Bryn Mawr School opened its doors to Mexican and Mexican American students who spoke Spanish. The Spanish school was built with $3,000. One teacher, Pauline Powers taught at the Bryn Mawr School, and three teachers taught at Mission School.
