RCA Victor Program Transcriptions

RCA Victor Program Transcriptions: Nat Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra, “Don’t Ask Me Why/Fate,” Victor (CAN), Label #L-16004, 10” 331/3rpm, Year Unknown.

This record contains two songs on one side and an etching reading “VICTOR” on the other. This is an example of Victor’s early attempt to introduce long-playing records at the 331/3rpm speed for home use. Despite the use of “transcription” in the title, these were not recorded from broadcast or intended for broadcast use. RCA Victor continued to be printed as His Master’s Voice on records for several years in Canada after RCA bought the Victor Talking Machine Company in 1929.
