His research about communist education were instrumental in shaping the understanding of the People’s Republic of China during the cold war, and he served as the Principal Investigator for a number of government-sponsored studies on Communist China. In addition to nine critically acclaimed monographs and 18 co-authored books with leading scholars in the fields, Dr. Chen wrote entries about China for Encyclopedia Britannica and The World Book Encyclopedia as well as published more than 100 articles about China in American academic journals, newspapers and magazines. Dr. Chen also advised numerous master’s theses and doctoral dissertations during his tenure.
