Historic Timeline

1850s: First American settlers appear along Fountain Creek.
1853: Wilson Cemetery built on/near property.
1860: The development of irrigation ditches along Fountain Creek for farming and ranching begins.
1862: President Lincoln signs the Homestead Act into law.
1863: William Cotten first to settle on property.
1872: D&RG Railroad comes through the property
1870: Andrew G. Lincoln and James C. Woodbury begin buying parcels of land that would become Old Hanna Ranch.
1872: The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad obtains right of way through property.
1893: Walter Hanna is born in New Mexico. (2/7)
1902: Severe flooding on Fountain Creek destroys Little Butte Station's section house. (5/29)
1903: James C. Woodbury Dies. 
1903: D&RG wreck at Little Buttes; no loss of life. (8/6)
1911: Frank Roby of the Roby Ranch Dies (Large portion of the future Hanna Ranch) at his home the Buttes area
1913: The Roby Ranch is sold to C.A. Hubbard and Co. for $125,000. 
1918: Walter Sr. and Daphne Hanna (Holt) Married in Socorro, NM.
1920: Mary Hayward (Hanna) (Frost) is born. (8/25)
1935: Major Fountain Creek Flood.
1939: Roby Ranch is sold to Robert A. Allen.
1940: Roby Ranch is sold to Ackerman and Deatherage. 
1940s: Italian POWs build the future home of the Hanna family (Old HR).
1946: The Miller Ranch Co. changes name to McCandlish Land and Cattle Co.
1947: Ranch purchased by Walter Hanna and son, Clark. (12/31/46)
1955: Kirk Hanna is born 9/24.
1957: Clark Hanna and daughter die in car/train collision.
1957-1958: Land acquired by state for I-25 construction.
1959: Walter Hanna sells the Bar-H-Bar cattle ranch in Socorro County, NM after a “quarter century.” Property Sales 
1961: Interstate 25 construction is completed. 
1961: “Old Hanna Ranch” property sold to Clear Springs.
1965: Major Fountain Creek flood.
1966:Little Wrangler children's book published. 
1969: Walter Hanna dies 
1973: Kirk Hanna graduates from Fountain Valley High School.
1994: Kirk Hanna receives Colorado’s Riparian Steward of the Year Award.
1995: Major Fountain Creek flood.
1998: Kirk Hanna Dies 12/19.
1999: Mary Hayward (Hanna) (Frost) dies 10/23.
2008: The ranch property is split between Steve Hanna and Ann Hanna.
2014: The Hanna Ranch film debuts.
