In the early 20th century, a big number of African Americans were slave workers working under harmful conditions that never gave them the feeling of being human. After that time period, they were able to gain more rights as human beings, but the way people viewed them were not much different than how they were viewed in the past centuries. They were involved in hard service jobs, unskilled labor, and difficult tasks. A large number of African American families were found to be economically low in status. When the civil rights era came along in the 1960’s, racial segregation was being improved and discrimination was being treated, so that Blacks can be able to receive the same wages and opportunities as everyone else. African Americans were depicted as being in the lowest class in society, and many faced poverty and unemployment, due to the fact that some see them as being lazy and unwilling to do work in specific areas of the world.
