While many would like believe that the 21st century is moving into an era free of prejudice, the deep ties of racial discrimination in history will forever prevent the end of stereotypes. With the recent election of Donald Trump, many Americans have been reminded of these histories and that racial prejudice still exists. Thus far, the most popular and revisited stereotypes of the 21st century have been that of the Muslim, Mexican immigrant and African American identities. Continuing through this century, it is essential to learn what histories these stereotypes are rooted in and how they are socially constructed to oppress marginalized communities. This understanding will help further progress to a better educated and non-prejudice future.
