Set in an apse-like projection between two doors in the western wall, the impressive bimah (reader’s platform) faces the ehal (ark) and dominates one half of the interior space. The central bay is surmounted by an inscribed dome. Note especially the iron tie rods that link the columns under the arches. They provide extra tension and help support the building.
