Refinery Process and Importance of Refinery Products

 James G. Speight, the author who writes about fossil fuel processing and environmental issues has explained the importance of refinery products in his article. According to the article, the products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, liquefied petroleum and kerosene are the daily necessities of people all around the globe. All these useful products are made from crude oil. Crude oil is the unpurified state of petroleum.  Basically, petroleum is the mixture of hydrocarbon compounds found in all gaseous, liquid and solid states, and the petroleum is found to be deposited in the sedimentary rocks throughout the world. The job of the refinery process is to separate the petroleum into small parts and after treating these parts industrially, useful and valuable products are produced. When the petroleum is in the state of crude oil, it has very less value. But after it is refined, the petroleum products yielded are important not only in daily lives of people, but also in the road and airway transportation sectors. For example, the liquid fuel produced as a result of refinery can be used as diesel and aviation fuel. Likewise, the distillation residuum asphalt, which is acquired during the refinery process can be used for highway surfaces (Speight, “Petroleum Processing and Refining”).
