[Due 12/1, 8P] - Prepare 5 Slides // Reading Response + write-up // EXTRA CREDIT: Tech Buzzwords Assignment
PART 1: LAB ACTIVITY - Prepare 5 slides for your final presentation + draft paper outline:
- [1a] - Prepare one data visualization that frames your research up to this point. In class on Monday, 12/2, you will get five minutes to show and discuss this one data visualization that creates a story around the data you have culled from the survey so far. In 11/18's class, you'll learn how to make visualizations of your data. You are free to use excel or any other platform you'd like to create the viz. Specifically think about which aspects of the survey data relate with the bigger picture and the story you are trying to tell, especially in reference to your interview(s) and archive visits.
- [1b] - Prepare four "qualitative" slides that frame the results of your interview and/or research from your archival visits. Try to use the two quotes that you pulled from your interview, or any other pertinent data. In the lab on Wednesday, 12/4, you will get to further discuss your data visualization along with these four qualitative slides and research to date.
- [1c] - Draft a one page outline of your final paper. Think of how the 5 slides can serve as concrete detail for the argument and narrative you will develop in your paper.
- NOTE: The more thought you put into crafting this exercise, the easier it will be for you to prepare your final presentation and paper!

EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT:
Check out the Tech Buzzwords Project. Pick 6 buzzwords: a.) 3 buzzwords that you were previously unfamiliar with, and b.) 3 that you believe don’t quite catch the complete nuance of the term.
For a.) discuss why this term might be important, how it relates to the work that you are doing, and how this concept might enter different spaces of discussion (e.g. how might historians, activists, athletes, or city administrators use this in their work?)
For b.) “fill in” the definitional “gaps” that the Tech Buzzword definition misses. Are these gaps denotative or connotative? How does the definition offered by the website offer a distinct viewpoint? What other viewpoints does your definition capture?
