The company was founding in 1895 by Henry Atlas. The store was a part of Scioto county’s bustling economy in the early 1900’s.
During World War II Atlas Fashions published a booklet in conjunction with the Portsmouth Times highlighting the achievements of the men and women from Scioto County who served in the war. The booklet is made up of war bond advertisements that appeared in the Portsmouth Times that contain personal anecdotes and messages from local residents. Photos of service men and their families with heartfelt messages can be seen within the pages of Atlas Fashions’ War Report.
Atlas Fashion’s War Report was created not only to showcase the local servicemen and women but to celebrate the success Portsmouth and Scioto county had in selling war bonds. Atlas Fashion’s was awarded the United States Treasury Star for their efforts in 1944. This is testament to the continued sense of community, service, and giving back that is prominent among the residents of Scioto county.
