The exploratory essay I wrote which focused on an image that had gone viral about the North Dakota pipeline and the tensions it created between Native Americans and Americans was an interpretive analysis of the viral image from social media. I wanted to explore more about pictures and what lies behind them besides the obvious, there’s more then, the eyes see. While doing research you begin to learn if your observations were correct as to what you thought was going on or you begin to learn what was really going on and your emotions might change toward an image. When writing this essay I wanted to be able to look past the superficial. I wanted to use other techniques that would help me analyze and comprehend what was taking place in the image. I wanted to appeal to anyone who was intrigued with the image of the North Dakota pipeline, those who wanted to learn more about the situation. As a writer I want the reader to see what I am able to see and be able to comprehend what is going on.  We all want to be able to analyze these images and learn more about what is going on. Also, my audience and I share the interest of digging deeper into an images background to reveal what it is hiding right in front of our eyes.
