Overall Score: 26/28

Evaluation: This is a Digital Humanities project through the online archival of information that we researched and backed up with credible sources. We found information from various sources and compiled them to form a new research question and project. Through the collection of information that became a cohesive Scalar book, we created a space where this information can be accessed by anyone who needs to find information on jazz, education, and/or race. Although the project may have flaws due to Scalar’s technical glitches, the information compiled here is immortalized due to its digital form.

Content: 4/4

The content of the project was interesting and followed the research question well. All of the information we compiled was relevant to the history of jazz, education, and race.

Navigation/Organization: 3/4

The organization and navigation of this project is very clear. It takes a little time to through to find where everything is although overall it is user-friendly and well organized. The navigation is easy and it is clear where certain links will lead the user or where certain information is located.

Intractability: 4/4

The interactability of the site was good. The links, pictures, pages, and videos work well.

Credibility: 4/4

The credibility of the project was excellent. It the researchers were well researched and informed on their topic. In addition, the Hamilton Jazz archive is well funded so the chances of extendability of the site are high.

Sustainability of Media: 3/4

The sustainability of the videos, images, and audio files within this Scalar book prove a little problematic. Due to the fact that Scalar restricts the size of files that can be imported to 2 MB, it is only suitable for image or audio or simple program files, not videos.

Academic relevance/importance to jazz: 4/4

The academic relevance/importance to jazz of this Scalar book is excellent. Due to the fact that there are not a lot of credible sources or even general information about jazz, this project brings a large quantity of information to the masses about a pinpointed subtopic of jazz and Education. In addition, if one were to research a similar topic, they could easily cite the Scalar book as a helpful and reliable source.

Analysis on race and jazz: 4/4

Analysis on race and jazz is a difficult thing to complete due to the complicated origins of American jazz. However, the project examines race and jazz in a critical manner that explains how the genre has progressed as racial tensions have eased and grown.
