Inside Decoys from Shelburne Museum

Captain Charles Christopher Osgood (1820-1886)

Ship captain Charles Osgood purportedly carved a group of Canada goose decoys as he waited for his ship to sail from San Fransisco, CA to Salem, MA in 1849. On his return, he brought them to a friend's hunting lodge where they were discovered 100 years later (Hopkins, p. 76-77).  Five of the 6 known geese are in Shelburne Museum's collection.
