This exhibition, staged at the Tate Liverpool from January 29 to April 25, 2010, traced the impact of Black Atlantic culture and Black artists and intellectuals from the early 20th century to the present have played a central role in the formation of Modernism in contemporary art. The accompanying published collection further applies the concept of the Black Atlantic to art, confirming the centrality African diasporic artistic culture to the formation of modernity.
