Comics in Museums Today

Abstract Comics

              Today, there are approximately 37 museums around the world that showcase cartoon art with regularity.  Academic research within the field of cartooning is also common at the collegiate level. Cartoon learning and research centers such as the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum at The Ohio State University and the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center in Santa Rosa, California. Institutions such as these allow for the preservation and protection of historical and influential cartoon works, which is important for certain topics within art history and beyond. Other museums such as the Museum of Comic Art (MoCA) in the Netherlands, Cartoon Art Museum in California, and The Cartoon Museum in London, England, all serve the purpose of keeping the legacy of comics alive, and providing a space where comics can be appreciated.
