Hello, World
The author of Fisheye Placebo, Wenqing Yan, released Chapter 0 in 2013. The comic has been published on and off since then and has been on hiatus for several years due to outside issues with the artist. She has not abandoned the comic, however, and it will resume publication within the next year. The comic is, however, currently unfinished. The incomplete aspect of Fisheye Placebo encapsulates a crucial part of webcomics and e-literature in general; the reader connects to the work in frequent, small doses. Instead of reading a work in one sitting, the reader comes back to it on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. This publishing style creates an emotional bond between the reader and the story. To read, one must take time out of their daily schedule to consume the literature.
In Fisheye Placebo, Wenqing Yan contrasts the barron internet with the gritty world to create two parallel worlds where the actions in one impact the other. Through color and perspective, Yan creates two worlds, both separate yet intimate. In her surreal dystopia, Wan forces the reader to consider their feelings about their privacy, the government, and how much they value their personal safety versus their freedoms.
