Lessing's Radical Popular Enlightenment
Lessing, Noch nähere Berichtigung
Introduction
In the months after Lessing's censorship by the Duke of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, a rumor spread across Europe that Lessing had been bribed by the Jewish community of Amsterdam to publish the Fragmente eines Ungenannten. Lessing was at the time forbidden from writing on religious matters under his own name. He accordingly published the pamphlet Noch nähere Berichtigung des Mährchens von 1000 Dukaten oder Judas Ischariot, dem zweyten under the name of his son-in-law, Theodor König.
