Finding Information: Books and Articles

LibGuides

LibGuides is a web publishing platform that allows library staff to share information, create and manage websites and organize class, and subject specific resources. While there are several different types of LibGuides the 2 most used ones are Research Guides and Topical & General Purpose Guides.

Research Guides  are located on the Library’s homepage under the Research tab and usually  correspond to an academic discipline (e.g. History, Anthropology, Sociology etc.); however there are exceptions. For example, the Government Information Research Guide does not match up with an academic discipline but the information in it can generally be used across most Social Science subject areas.

Topical & General Purpose Guides can cover a variety of topics such as but not limited to: Earth Day, Human Trafficking and Brexit. They can be accessed by using the Library Guides link under the Research Guides & Workshops heading from the Services section of the Library's homepage, then choosing the relevant Subject of the guide that is needed.

Jessy investigated various LibGuides and was happy to know she had so many options. She decided she would start with the Climate Change Topical Guide and if that did not work for her she would the use the International or Global Studies Research Guides. She was also interested in exploring  Government Information. Jessy was not on campus and did not know if she could access any of the electronic subscription resources, so she viewed the Accessing Library Resources Remotely tutorial before she moved on.
