Finding Information: Books and Articles

Introduction

Jessy O. is a rising senior in the O’Neil School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She was recently contacted by the Office of the Registrar and informed that she needed to take a 3 credit Social/Historical Studies course to complete the University's General Education Common Ground requirements or she would not be able to graduate. After much discussion with her advisor, Jessy enrolled in a course in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS) taught by a professor named the Climate Queen.

The first day of class the Climate Queen reviewed the syllabus with the students and proceeded to go into detail about a particular writing assignment. The students were to pick a topic, watch an international conference on Climate Change, follow the topic throughout the conference and produce a white paper on their topic using information from the conference, books, and scholarly sources. Many of Jessy’s classmates looked worried, but when Jessy took English Composition the instructor had several librarians do presentations on library resources and services. Now all Jessy had to do is find her English Composition notebook!

Over the weekend, Jessy went home and found her English Composition notebook in a box in her parent’s garage. After she re-read her notes, Jessy felt sure she would find what she needed to complete her white paper on the conservation of peatlands in Indonesia.

Follow Jessy O. on her information seeking adventure to learn about library resources and how to find books and articles.
