It’s surprising when the culture of a known tribe just kind of vanishes in the background. But I liked what Kevin and Sarah are doing about bringing the culture back and reminding its people of what it was like. The fact that they created this youth garden program and a mobile class room shows that they are really serious about getting back to their roots and saving their tribe. They use these programs and resource to teach children how growing food is part of their culture, while teaching the adults how to use and make compost and while learning other management practices and techniques. Having a seventy percent increase in the number of gardens within the Cherokee culture shows that with a little effort and support and the interest of those within and outside the community, from mainly of those from other tribes can make a difference and keep the Cherokee culture alive.
