Catherine is an third-year PhD student born and raised in Queens, NY. She earned a BA from Howard (Dr. DeGout was her senior advisor), and an  MA from Mills in Oakland, California. She wrote her thesis on the "tragic black heroines" on then-primetime series Scandal and Being Mary Jane contending that black female sexuality remains an American anxiety. Her upcoming dissertation will be a literary history project that critically interrogates re-presentation and imagination across Afam, British, and Caribbean Literature.
