The Shins

Physical markings on specific body parts also reveal insight on identity because they represent past experiences and events that summate to make the narrator who she is today. The narrator has a variety of scars on her shins from sliding down a bit of the Rocky Mountains, banging her shins on her bed frame and sun spots that she gets in the summer sun. Each of these markings represents an impactful memory. She remembers a pleasant vacation to the Rocky Mountains, running and jumping into bed when she was young and time spent outside in the summer. When exploring My Body it is important to not just focus on the specific body part, but also all the markings that make the narrator’s physical body unique. Those unique markings tell the story of her childhood and the life shaping events that contribute to her character.
