Brief overview of historical surveillance, with domestic and international examples (e.g. The Gestapo, the McCarthy era, etc.). This will lead up to more modern examples to provide the context for what is discussed later in the series. This history will incorporate both governmental and corporate surveillance. This will provide a framework with which the audience can gauge evolution of the right to privacy, and their own perception of what that entails.
