Dumbfoundead & Ice Cube

Why Hip Hop? What connects between Korean American, Koreans, immigrants, and life stories of Koreatown and hip hop genre? Dumbfoundead (DFD) is one of the few Asian American hip hop artists and a rapper that has been recognized by wide range of YouTube and online audiences. DFD is highly respected and recognized by his life stories of being Korean American and challenged himself to become a well-known hip hop artist among Asian American community. His album and lyrics explains meaning of L.A Koreatown and life stories that beyond perpetual Asian American stereotypes. DFD is true hero and rebel to many Asian American hip hop fans. There should be no or any racial binaries that marginalized one's hip hop talent based on a person's race or ethnicity. One song can make a great impact to people, community, and society to understand one another and learn from experiences.
Ice Cube's "Black Korea" specifically focused on negative experiences of African Americans in South Central with Korean merchants/Korean immigrants. The song contains explicit racist and prejudice perspectives on Koreans in South Central. In my perspective, it is very disturbing song and lyrics but I can not say Ice Cube's lyrics itself was wrong. His lyrics critically examined Korean merchants' behaviors and attitudes towards to Black customers. "Black Korea" lyrics show critical issues of racial conflict in South Central and Koreatown. A lack of understanding of both cultures and language barrier from Korean immigrants was a short cut interracial issues. Ice Cube could have done one thing to ease the tensions between African Americans and Koreans; that is write a song for both communities to find a peace instead of hate and also blaming other race or ethnicity does not change social system that was already created by bias and prejudice. Minority needs to work together in order to make better places. We have a space to create better places for our future generations who will also face interracial conflicts. Racism and hate will always be there for anyone, we need to create an environment to ease our tensions of racist and bias minds. Music can heal people and will connect between people who have different race, ethnicity, language, and values.
