The Dead Tower

As Loss Undersea comes to an end, the figure changes to a final form and the screen fades black. Finally, the story replays for the reader including all of the choices that the reader had made throughout.

"Loss Undersea//By D. Fox Harrell

simple foolish days, one after the next
but glimpses of shuffle swim made it seem i walked through water, not air
rousing from my slumber to sleep cleanse

no alarm clock buzzing, my smiling dreamer heart beating just the same
a dot of sea water lands on my upper lip from somewhere
there is time to bathe before showering and time for me to nibble

soul-dead plate-licker and butter; milk tea, jam bellied i depart again
a sinking life
to placate bureaucrats again i must procrastinate

becoming myself, sleeper staff-member is my labor’s reward
lost-being fishermen life shrinks me a centimeter lower
eating food; i must eat

time is up for my loose cafeteria-chair-slumper now, it’s far past noon
the spectre happy atmosphere is heavy
simple uncaring diligent work, i rest

living my daily hours in this motionless tired-eye room
the air is just that much more bathtub-ghost manta tinted
after laboring i am in my room to exercise

at least now i’ve done something, some free renter thing
the air is just that much more bottomless-trench shell tinted
the day is over"
