Engle was born in Niles, Michigan, on 22 October 1846, the son of the Rev. George B. and Abigail (Edson) Engle. His father was at one time rector of Trinity Church in Michigan City. Engle married Adaline "Addie" Strong. He spent his career in Indiana, serving at Columbus from 1883 to 1887. New Castle from 1887 to 1888, Brightwood from 1888 to 1889, Connersville from 1889 to 1894, and Frankfort from 1894 to 1896. He came to Huntington in 1897 as vicar of Christ Church, serving from 1897 to 1898. He was living inIndiapolis in 1900 and died there on 1 November 1925. He was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery. For 48 years he served as secretary of the Mystic Tie and was active as a patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
