Rev. Stephen Douglass

The Rev. Stephen Douglass was born about 1809 in New York State. is parentage is unknown. He married Jane A. McGee and spent most of his career in New York State. He was ordained to the diaconate about 1839 and served as a missionary in the towns of Royalton and Medina in New York. He was in Camden, Oneida County, in 1844, and at Athens, Greene County, from 1846 to 1847. From here he moved to Hempstead as rector of St. George's Church in 1849, and then to Glen Cove in Queen's County in 1850. He was enumerated on the 1850 census in Oyster Bay. Douglass came to Indiana and served as rector of St. Paul's, Mishawaka, from 1852 to 1853. From there he went to Norwich, Chenango County, New York, to take charge of Emmanuel Church, and by 1856 he worked as a missionary in Jersey City. He died there on 21 January 1857.
