Rev. Samuel Johnson Yundt

The Rev. Samuel J. Yundt was born in Vincennes, Indiana, on 25 August 1843, the son of Jacob and Mary (Carpenter) Yundt. During the Civil War he served in Company C of the 10th Indiana Infantry. He married Margaret Helen Lucretia Bowman in Knox County, Indiana, on 16 June 1871. That same year he graduated from Nashotah House and was there ordained a deacon by Bishop Armitage. He moved to Indiana to take charge of St. Thomas, Plymouth, from 1872 to 1873, during which time Bishop Talbot ordained him to the priesthood. In 1875 he became rector of St. John's Church in Mankato, Minnesota, and two years later moved to Christ Church in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. In 1888 he became rector of Christ Church in Galena, Illinois, and remained there for the rest of his career. He died in Galena on 3 January 1921 but was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls.
