Rev. Richard Totten

The Rev. Richard Totten was born on 14 December 1842 in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of the Rev. Silas and Mary (Isham) Totten. Early on he moved with this parents to Iowa City, Iowa. After his ordination by Bishop Smith, he came to Lexington, Kentucky, in 1866, where he founded a female school on Broadway that later moved to the McCauley House on Maxwell Street. He served a church in Cannelton, Indiana, and taught school in Tennessee, before moving to Cincinnati. Later in 1870 he came to Elkhart, Indiana, to take charge of St. John's. He remained there only a year. He later moved to Helena, Arkansas, where he died on 9 January 1889. His body is buried in Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky. He was unmarried.
