Heermans was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1847. He attended Nashotah House, graduating in 1877, at which time he was also rector of Christ Church in Ottawa, Illinois. He was ordained tot he priesthood the following year by Bishop McLaren. He became rector of St. Thomas Church, Amboy, Illinois, later in 1877, remaining there till 1883, when he moved to Indiana to become rector of Christ Church, Madison. He left Madison in 1887. He became rector of Trinity, Michigan City, in 1891, and remained there until 1898. He moved tot he town of Sycamore in DeKalb County, Illinois, where he remained until his death on 29 November 1910. He was married to Clara J. Webster.
