Rev. Joseph Adderly

The Rev. Joseph Adderly was born in Waterford, Ireland, in 1816, the son of William and Elizabeth (Thompson) Adderly. Arriving in America with his parents at the age of 17, he grew up in Pittsburgh and later married Hannah Peters on 20 June 1843 in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. He served as rector of Christ Church, Greensburg, Pennsylvania, from 1842 to 1845. He later spent time in Wisconsin and was at Stevens Point in 1860. By 1861 he was in Saginaw, Michigan, and did missionary work in nearby Bay County. He moved to Hannibal, Missouri, and was there when the Civil War broke out, but moved again to Mishawaka, Indiana, where he served as rector of St. Paul's from 1861 to 1866. He also served as a missionary at St. John's, Bristol, from 1863 to 1866. Afterward he moved to Chester, Illinois, where he died on 1 March 1877.
