Raymond Lemert was born in Chicago on 31 August 1895, the son of Ulysses Simpson and Matie Mae (Witwer) Lemert. He served as a non-commissioned officer during World War I. Afterward he attended the Business College of St. Paul and the University of Minnesota before entering Nashotah House, from which he graduated in 1926. He was made a deacon in 1925 and a priest in 1926. He began his career as rector of Trinity Church in Peru, Indiana, serving there from 1926 to 1927, then moving to Indiana Harbor to take charge of St. Alban the Martyr mission from 1927 to 1929. He left the diocese for Indianapolis, becoming rector of Trinity Church in Connersville from 1929 to 1931. He married Caroline Eleanor Brown in Bloomington, Indiana, on 29 August 1931. That year he moved to Waterville, New York, to take charge of Grace Church in Waterville and later a church in Oswego from 1942 to 1947. He then moved west to Chico, California, to become rector of St. John's Church, serving from 1947 to 1957. His final post was at St. Stephen's Church in Colusa, California, from 1957 to 1965. He died at Chico on 1 April 1979.
