George Moore was born in Derrytown, near Muff, County Donegal, Ireland, on 4 May 1834, the son of James Moore. He came with his parents to Montreal in 1838 and then moved to Lowell and Fall River, Massachusetts, where he attended school. He went from there to Camden and Mexico, New York, in 1848 to continue his schooling, then traveled to St. Louis in 1856 to teach. He was ordained to the diaconate at Trinity Church, St, Louis, in 1875 and to the priesthood in Christ Church two years later. He became rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Momence, Illinois, and married in Kankakee County the widow Helen Marion (Strunk) Worcester on 23 July 1889. Moore was an active missionary who often crossed the state line to serve churches in the Diocese of Indiana. He presided at St. Mary's, Delphi, in 1896 and played an influential role in Valparaiso, picking up parishioners in his sleigh during the winter months for a still unorganized mission. He was also priest in charge of St. Paul's Hammond, from 1897 to 1898 while continuing to serve in Momence. He moved with his wife to West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1910, and retired there without serving a church. He died there on 21 May 1922 and was eulogized by a local newspaper as one of the town's "most kindly and interesting characters." He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
