Addis Emmett Bishop was born on 18 April 1826 in New York. He married Mary E, Birdseye on 7 October 1862, the same year that he moved to La Porte, Indiana, to become rector of St. Paul's Church. He left the diocese but later returned between 1873 and 1875, when he served as rector of St. John's in Elkhart. He moved to the Diocese of Kansas in 1880 and died at Lincoln, Kansas, on 8 January 1902.
