Egyptian die-cutters were responsible for the minting process of Ayyubid coins. While the specifics of the minting process are unclear, we do know that these Egyptian die-cutters were knowledgeable about scientific methods used to isolate gold from other elements. One of the only existing medieval documents that details the Ayyubid minting process emphasizes the significance and skill required to be a die-cutter. The die-cutting profession was seen as very technical and required constant practice and refinement.
