When was this made?

This dinar was minted in 1192 during the end of Saladin's reign. Five years earlier in 1187, Saladin and his forces laid siege to Jerusalem, eventually recapturing the city. During the Third Crusade (1189-1192), Saladin's army engaged in combat with King Richard I, and Saladin later agreed to terms following his defeat. Saladin died of a fever one year after the end of the Third Crusade.

Established in 1171 by Saladin, the Ayyubid dynasty lasted almost 80 years until a combination of local dynasties, the Mamluks, and finally the Mongols conquered all of its territories.
