Bringing the Holy Land Home: The Crusades, Chertsey Abbey, and the Reconstruction of a Medieval Masterpiece

Where did this go?

The Sword Pommel of Pierre de Dreux accompanied the Duke throughout nearly the entriety of his crusading expedition. The Pommel traveled from France to Italy to Greece and then to Egypt and other parts of the Middle east that Pierre explored and battled within. The Pommel then remained in Egypt for many years following Pierres capture and subsecuent ransom to France. The next known location of the Pommel is not until 1928, when Louis Joseph Cartier, A parisian, purchased the Pommel in Damascus Syria. He later offered the Pommel as an incredible and generous gift to the Metropilitian Muesum of Art in 1938 where it has been stored and displayed ever since.
