Since its organization at Plattsburg Barracks, New York, on May 17, 1933, Company 258 has occupied twelve different camp sites in eight states.
From June to October 1933, the company occupied Camp Sheep Mountain Creek, Lewiston, Idaho; in October, the company moved to Camp Ala, Moulton, Alabama, Cherokee and Pisgah National Forests for amount of work accomplished. In October 1934, the company changed station to Waterford, Mississippi, where it developed one of the fines camp sites in the South.
In July 1935, the outfit moved westward to Camp Tahoe, Tahoe City, California. Winter saw the wandering company again on the move, occupying Camp Reno, four miles south of Reno, Nevada on Armistice Day. There the company remained for almost three years, its longest in any one camp, maintaining a side camp at Idlewild.
In August 1938, the outfit pulled up its stakes again, trekking down to Camp Inyokern, at Inyokern, California in the wild and weird Death Valley country. Side camps were maintained at Isabella, west thru historic Walkers Pass, and at Lone Pine, on the lower slopes of Mt. Whitney, highest point in the country.
April 1939 brought a move to Camp Babb, Montana, in the Blackfeet Reservation at the edge of Glacier Park, northmost camp in the States. The Company moved to its present location, Camp Milk River, Malta, Montana in October.
The present staff is: Company Commander Johanan A. Goldreich, Subaltern John P. Downing, Dr. Jack D. Hays, Educational Adviser Roy P. Dooley, Superintendent W. A. McPhee.
Voted Camp Characters are: Outstanding Enrollee, Walter F. Kling; Neatest Enrollee, Frank Lo Presti; Most Popular Enroll, Edward Molloy; Best Athlete, John Fedorcsak; Most Courteous, Marcus D. Pratt; Biggest Grouch, Frederick Johnson; Biggest Chow-Hound, George Daniloff; Best Worker, Harry Penfield; Biggest Shiek, Harold Godwin.
