Eastern Culture Nucleus: Chinese Rare Books in the USC Libraries

Timeline

This online exhibition includes Chinese rare books 善本, namely printed books and bound manuscripts produced before 1796, i.e. through the Qianlong 乾隆 reign (1736-1795) of the Qing dynasty, and other fine and special editions of traditional Chinese books from later periods until the establishment of the Republic of China in 1911 in the USC Libraries. The earliest Chinese rare book at USC dates to 1515, which corresponds to the last years of Zhengde 正德 reign (1506-1521) of the Ming 明 dynasty (1368-1644).
