With the grant, we were able to invite Dr. Soren Edgren, the renowned Chinese Rare Book Specialist from Princeton University, to USC to review our rare book collection in November 2019 and to conduct, for the first time, a systematic review of Chinese rare book holdings at USC Libraries from September 2019 to March 2020.
- Sue Luftschein (Head of Special Collections), Masoud Farajpour (Library Manager of Special Collections), and other Special Collections staff members helped retrieve the Chinese rare books in the Special Collections and provided spaces and equipment to accomplish the 2019 Dean's Challenge Grant project.
- Zhaohui Chu (master student in Computer Engineering) and Zhijin Shen (master student in Architecture) assisted in the systematic review of the Chinese rare book collection, including checking physical holding and condition and scanning bibliographic pages from each Chinese rare book title.
