About Me
My name is Aung Pyae Phyo, and I am a student in the Class of 2021 at Bucknell University, majoring in Markets, Innovation and Design. I come from Myanmar, formerly Burma, and was very interested in the fact that the first international student here was also from Burma. I started looking into the Burma-Bucknell Connection and discovered that it was one of Bucknell’s most interesting connections. Through doing this project, I wanted to learn more about the relationship and help people learn more about Burma, Bucknell, and how strong a country’s ties can be to a foreign institution.
This research was done as part of Bucknell University’s Digital Scholarship Summer Research Fellows program in the summer of 2019. The program sponsors a group of students to learn about Digital Scholarship and the tools needed to complete a digital project of our own. Acknowledgements
I would like to thank Courtney Paddick and Carrie Pirmann, for the opportunity to research this topic as part of the DSSRF 2019 cohort. I would also like to give special thanks to Isabella O’Neil of Special Collections and University Archives for helping me find the documents and scanning the materials I needed. With their guidance and support, I have been able to find out some truths about Bucknell’s commitment to its relationship to Burma and disprove that the Burma-Bucknell Weekends suddenly ended without a fight.
