BIOGRAPHY Meital Yaniv’s journey began in 1984 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Growing up in a conservative home, Meital’s values were shaped by her family’s nationalistic ideals. She eventually expels these values in light of continuing her search for self that was seemingly stunted while living in Israel. She moved to America for graduate school and attended the California Institute of the Arts, where she continued her journey as an artist and an Israeli immigrant navigating her way through her new home - Los Angeles. Meital is an interdisciplinary artist whose works range from visual arts, such as film and photography, to writing. Her book, Spectrum for an Untouchable, addresses Israel from an autobiographical angle, in which Meital confronts her juxtaposing emotions toward her homeland.
INTRODUCTION TO MEITAL YANIV Throughout her book Meital demonstrates how liminality can provide the space needed to withdraw from Israeli patriotism to more accurately understand the world around her. Meital’s hyphenated identity as an Israeli-American has provided her with the opportunity to constitute her own world-view in hopes of inspiring others to do the same. Meital’s primary hope is to promote peace and unity of all beings regardless of national values and prejudices. Follow the path below to learn more about Meital Yaniv's life and work.
