Isaac Larian was born on March 28, 1954 to a Jewish family in Iran. Born the city of Kashan, which is south of Tehran, Larian moved to Tehran with his family when he was four years old. However, his father’s textile business soon went bankrupt and consequently the family had to move to a Tehran slum known as Narmak. Mr. Larian had a typical Jewish boy’s experience in the small towns of Iran; Muslim children would beat him up. Larian decided to stand up for himself, and fought back when he was bullied at school. He started strength training, using bricks as dumbbells since his family could not afford to buy actual real ones. Larian aimed to build enough strength to beat up a bully at school named Mortezah. The next time he encountered the boy, Larian won the fight and was vindicated. This fighter mentality that Larian discovered within himself later inspired him to donate to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
