City ordinance in Los Angeles won't let me plant edible plants in my parkway. I understand that we need to protect the walkways and allow people to pass by, but this arable land is available for reducing my dependence on food produced elsewhere and sold at the suupermarket.

I now have health insurance until I am twenty-six, but only through my mother's lucky employment at a union factory. I can go into mortgage-like debt to get through college. I can marry someone legally in some states, though I'm not sure I'd like to enter into such a problematic institution.

I actually found my little mountain town in Out of the Way area of Pennsylvania to be unknowingly non-discriminatory as well as brutally discriminatory. As a 16, 17, and 18 yo "girl", I was the first "man" on the golf team. But in the early 60's bringing a Black roomate home from college with me led to verbal and abusive attacks: "Take that n***r home."

Laws in the past few years have limited my reproductive rights, allowed the government to hold me indefinitely w/o a trial, and made illegal to share food outdoors with the homeless in my city.

My wife can't come to the U.S., because DOMA forbids the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriage (and giving my wife a green card). We married in DC. The national capital allows same-sex marriage, but the government still looks the other way on assuring the full rights of marriage.

They restrict people from being who they want to be and saying what they want to say. Only recently have woman been able to vote, black people to have rights, and we STILL do not allow gay marrige in many states.
