Shawn Stinson

Shawn Stinson (1981-) is a transman that gained worldwide recognition after he won 1st place in the 2014 Female-to-Male Body Building Competition in 2014. Shawn entered the United States Marine Corps in 1998 and served until 2005. After his service in the Marine Corps admitted to himself that he felt "weird" and "knew something wasn't right." He acted upon his gender dysphasia and underwent "top surgery" in 2008. Stinson is a professional body builder and personal trainer in Atlanta, George. Stinson has, yet again, been catapulted into the public eye since HB2 (North Carolina's bathroom bill) was passed into law on March 23, 2016. North Carolina's Governor Pat McCrory signed the bill into law to prevent transgender individuals to use the restrooms of the gender in which they identify with. Stinson's photo has been used in many online meme's to challenge the merits of the law. Moreover, the concept of "passing" has now moved from the margins and is now center stage. The concept of "passing" has been viewed as a privilege in the transgender community that affords the to safely live in America's gender binary society.

Stinson has a very robust following on Facebook, but he does not accept friends. I follow him. He is does not have a presence on Twitter. He lives a very private life, but has publically come out against North Carolina's HB2.
