Correspondence regarding obtaining visa to the United States (1941-1942)

Apparently Mr. Salgo, a relative of my father (David Sheckett) hoped to obtain a visa for himself, his wife and daughter to come to the United States. My father was working on obtaining the affidavits. As Jews in France, their lives were in peril. Fifteen months later the State Department scheduled their hearing.

This correspondence is very suggestive of the difficulties which Jews attempting to escape the Europe faced when they were trying to enter the United States. I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been for my parents, especially my father, because of his difficulties in saving his family when so many perished.
